The position is placed in the research laboratory of Professor Simon Ekman. The group of Professor Simon Ekman focuses on the development of novel treatments for lung cancer. The overall aim is to develop new oncological treatments through the approach of precision cancer medicine.

Description of the subject area

The candidate is expected to play a major role in designing and driving research projects forward. The candidate will work on several projects regarding coding and non-coding RNAs, analysis of DNA aberrations as well as metabolomic studies. The duties involve supervising work involving routine molecular biology techniques, in vivo models as well as computational and biostatistical analyses of expression arrays and sequencing data.

Your mission

The position covers the following main tasks:

  • Designing and supervising studies around the generation and maintenance of non-small cell lung cancer models with acquired resistance to clinically approved therapeutics
  • Designing, supervising and ensuring reproducibility of various wet-lab biology experiments
  • Designing and supervising bioinformatics analyses of RNA, DNA and metabolites from large omics data sets
  • Playing a major role in the design, planning and execution of all the mentioned points above

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated good level of research expertise with significant scientific production. The applicant must also have demonstrated a good scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future.

Assessment criteria

  • Scientific original publications and review articles their quality and quantity, with special consideration on publications after the doctoral education.
  • Scientific independent ability demonstrated through leading and senior authorships.
  • Research grants received in regional and national competition.
  • National and international research collaborations.
  • Research responsibility as supervisor for degree project on advanced level, doctoral student and postdoc.
  • Reviewer and evaluator of the scientific work of others.
  • Research experience from a research group other than where the doctoral education was conducted.
  • Development of one's own research profile within the subject area.
  • Plan for future research based on current science.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Scientific independency in the field of lung cancer, including work involving altered metabolic processes in lung cancer
  • Ability to drive translational projects, as the principal investigator, involving collaborations with the clinic, and within the lung cancer field.  
  • Ability to receive major research grants as the principal applicant related to research within lung cancer. 
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  •  Ability to drive basic and translational project, as the principal investigator, involving multiple in vitro models, in vivo models as well as large omic datasets.
