The Integrative Physiology research group at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery at Karolinska Institutet is seeking up to two highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join the group of Professor Anna Krook. The research group is headed jointly with Professor Juleen R Zierath and is focused on translational studies on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and the positive effects of physical exercise on glucose and lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle. The candidate will join our research group and work on projects focused on the identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways that contribute to exercise-mediated changes of insulin resistance in the context of type 2 diabetes. For this project we are looking to recruit a person interested in understanding the role of non-coding RNAs in the regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism and insulin sensitivity.
The candidate will work on the regulation of insulin sensitivity specifically in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue but also on a whole-body level using several model systems. Projects cover disease mechanisms as well as protocol and assay development.
We are looking for a candidate with doctoral training in experimental research. Expertise and research experience in the study of micro RNAs and other non-coding RNAs in skeletal muscle is desired, in particular effects of physical activity and exercise training. FELASA certification or similar, as well as research experience from clinical studies and from analysis of human samples is also valuable. Previous work with cell signalling and bioinformatic analysis of large data sets is an extra merit. The candidate must be fluent in English, have excellent writing skills and be able to take the lead on projects. We are looking for a cooperative candidate who thrives to work with others. The candidate will join an enthusiastic, collaborative, hardworking and dynamic team
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Biomedicum, Solna
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
