Division

The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) at Karolinska Institutet (KI) gathers more than 500 staff members with clinical experience from Karolinska University Hospital and with research competence from Karolinska Institutet for research on the common diseases. The Herlenius group within the Department of Women's and Childrens's Health brings together researchers with a wide range of expertise and interest, but with a common goal of improving human health. We are currently seeking a postdoctoral student for 4 months that will study and investigate the molecular mechanism and physiology of brainstem breathing rhythm generating centers.

Duties

In the Herlenius team we investigate the Genes(is) of Inspiration – Birth, development of Breathing and role of inflammation in autonomic control. The postdoc will investigate novel neuromodulator targets, revelated using the Herlenius group and collaborators ScRNASeq Smartseq3 and Smartseq3Xpress techniques. He/She should have a PhD in neuroscience and be familiar with electrophysiological techniques, specifically Patch-clamp and extracellular recordings. Knowledge and expertise in time-lapse calcium and other flourophores recordings is beneficial. The postdoc will perform In vitro and ex vivo recordings in breathing acute and organotypic brainstem cultures to participate in the revelation of mechanism underlying the GENE(sis) of Breathing.

We are seeking a postdoctoral student that is communicative, interactive and independent, able to present and discuss data as well as participate in selected project publication.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
