Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Are you fascinated by the ageing process? Are you interested in exploring how strategies of immune system rejuvenation improve physiological function in murine model of natural or accelerated ageing? Join the Pietrocola Lab at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition. We are an international, multi-disciplinary team that shares a common interest in studying the molecular mechanisms underlying aging and age-associated disorders.

Division

The Pietrocola Lab is dedicated to investigating the fundamental mechanisms of aging and age-related disorders. We have a particular focus on understanding how the host immune system affects the natural aging process. At present, our lab consists of two postdoctoral researchers and one PhD student. Our research projects span various areas, such as developing gene therapy techniques to rejuvenate hematopoietic stem cells and slow down systemic aging, as well as implementing innovative immunotherapy strategies to target senescent cells in aging and age-related disorders. Within the lab, our objective is to cultivate a stimulating environment that promotes synergy and collaboration. Additionally, our research group is part of a larger "Aging and Cancer" space, which consists of other teams within the department. This setup facilitates new collaborations, joint events and sharing of expertise.

Duties

Currently we are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the research group of Federico Pietrocola, starting in January 2024. The focus of this position is to investigate how gene therapy approaches aiming at rejuvenating the hematopoietic system affect the aging phenotype in murine models of natural and accelerated aging. To successfully accomplish this goal, the candidate will have access to cutting-edge murine models of disease and local facilities equipped for high-throughput genomics, flow cytometry, and imaging analysis. Furthermore, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with internationally renowned scientists within the aging space.

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated scientist who possesses a doctoral degree and a strong background in Cellular Biology, with a focus in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Biology. Documented experience (e.g., FELASA certificate) with animal models, particularly mouse models, is a mandatory requirement. Prior knowledge in hematopoietic stem cell biology, gene editing, immunology and bioinformatics will be highly regarded during the selection process.

Evaluation criteria will also include personal skills such as motivation, independence, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
