Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Integrative Physiology research group focuses on cellular mechanisms underlying the development of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes as well as delineation of exercise-mediated effects on skeletal muscle mass, glucose metabolism and gene expression.

Your mission

We seek a scientist with a background in the field of type 2 diabetes and ageing research. The projects to be developed are focused on the physiological role of novel targets using primary skeletal muscle cells and a model organism, such as for example C. elegans. The candidate will identify genes and non-coding RNAs such as extracellular vesicle-derived microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs and mechanistically investigate their causative or preventive roles in the development of skeletal muscle ageing (sarcopenia) and/or in type 2 diabetes. Therefore, a strong expertise in molecular biology is required. Additionally, cell biology and molecular biology skills such as Western Blotting, molecular cloning, RNA and protein pulldowns, mass spectroscopy-based protein identification, as well as Next Generation Sequencing techniques including RNA-seq, small RNA-SEQ and ChIP-SEQ are required. Additionally, experience in working with C. elegans and familiar with techniques such as RNAi screens, swimming and survival assays etc would be a merit.. The successful candidate should show a high level of responsibility and should be able to work in a team and be willing to supervise students. Moreover, the candidate is expected to be independent in the areas of experimental design, data gathering and analysis as well as manuscript and grant preparation.

  • general medical internship (maximum 24 months)
  • specialist medical residency for clinically active professionals (maximum 24 months).

Ground, dates and extent must be clearly specified in the application and verified with relevant documentation.

Preference will be given to candidates with a documented background in ageing research, excellent molecular biology skills and experience of insulin signaling.

Bases of assessment

Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants.
