We welcome applications for a postdoc position in Prof Ådén´s team that studies cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neonatal brain injuries and novel treatment strategies. The position will be placed in the Department of Women´s and Children´s health at the Karolinska Institutet. Your mission

The Postdoctoral Fellow that joins the team will be investigating neuroinflammatory mechanisms in neonatal brain injury.

The project is focused on long-lasting inflammation after injury, especially T cell activation and modulation thereof in the developing brain. The work will be performed in vitro using cell cultures as well as in vivo using animal models. The project explores the biology of T cells in the normal and injured developing brain in close contact with immunologists, pediatric neuroscientists, and clinical researchers from a translational perspective.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is one who has a PhD in immunology, neuroscience, biomedical science, or another relevant field or has equivalent scientific competence. Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent. Previous experience in mouse models and in performing experimental procedures in mice is important. Previous experience in flow cytometry and tissue culture work, cryosectioning, confocal microscopy, and animal behavioral assessment are considered strong merits.

Applicants wishing to integrate computational and experimental biology approaches are especially encouraged to apply.

We are looking for a creative, hard-working and highly self-motivated person with a strong interest in brain injury and development. Experience in working with molecular and cellular biology techniques, multi-color flow cytometry, mice, and bioinformatics is highly desired; Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal) are required.

The successful candidates should be able to work independently, but also have the interpersonal and communication skills to succeed at working in a multidisciplinary team. They should have a deep sense of responsibility, take initiatives and have the capacity and flexibility to work with researchers and students of different expertise.

Experience of work in international research laboratories and recommendations from previous supervisors/teachers are appreciated. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.
