Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is engaged in advanced basic scientific, clinical, and epidemiological research. The department is also one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet. A research assistant position is now available at the Systems Virology Lab, Division of Clinical Microbiology.

The research

The Systems Virology lab aims to identify the molecular mechanism of host-viral response against RNA viruses using multi-omics technologies and experimental assays. We aim to identify the components of the immune response required for natural immune protection and linked with disease severity that can be translated into the future development of vaccine and antiviral strategies against emerging and re-emerging viruses. The research team has both bioinformatics and experimental teams and works in an interdisciplinary research environment. The present Research Assistant position is towards understanding the host-viral interactions in RNA virus targeting more towards HIV-1, flaviviruses, coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2 and Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses. The potential candidate is encouraged to look into the group website https://ki.se/en/labmed/the-systems-virology-lab

The project

Are you interested to learn how our immune system interacts with viruses and we can explore virus weakness to eliminate it? We are looking for a Research Assistant for our research theme, the correlates of immune protection against RNA viruses, who will work mainly support the doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with an opportunity to develop their research question.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a Research Assistant has obtained a master’s degree in virology, life science or related field. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge in virology with documented evidence to work with viruses mainly with RNA viruses of biosafety level 3 and above. Strong expertise in ELISpot Assays, qPCR, ELISA, Flow Cytometry are essential. Earlier experience in diagnostic laboratory and managing the laboratory data will be given priority. The candidate should open to learning new technologies.
