Do you want to develop web-based tools to support a global effort on translational medicine and open science?

We are looking for a skilled, highly motivated and experienced full-stack web developer to support an international open science effort in translational medical research. This is an exciting opportunity to work with diverse high-quality data types to develop novel web-based tools and platforms for data capture and dissemination. We offer a multi-national and collaborative research environment with partners in academia and the biomedical industry worldwide.

Your mission

A skilled, highly motivated and experienced full-stack web developer is needed to play a critical role in the continuous development and implementation of dissemination methods for the SGC and EUbOPEN partners. This role will develop and maintain web platforms to support effective public awareness and output dissemination in the context of translational medical research. Existing Drupal-based web sites such as www.thesgc.org and www.eubopen.org, WordPress-based sites such as www.openlabnotebooks.org and a number of other project-specific sites will be maintained, upgraded and/or re-built.

The SGC and EUbOPEN and our partners are a source of diverse data types and high-quality data which provides an unusually rich environment for development of novel tools using cutting-edge technologies. This has resulted in a number of web applications being developed, such as ChemiReg, ChromoHub, and UbiHub (see www.thesgc.org), which this post will further support and develop. Opportunities to develop additional data capture and dissemination web-based platforms will become available as new scientific projects are supported.

The post holder will be employed as IT-technician and report to Michael Sundström, and will in addition receive expert advice regarding the existing web platforms and applications and their further development by Matthieu Schapira, Head of Research Informatics at SGC, University of Toronto.

Project

This large-scale project is a collaboration between the Karolinska Institutet, University of Oxford (UK), Goethe University Frankfurt and other partners in EU, UK and globally, with funding from the European Union and pharmaceutical company partners. EUbOPEN is conducted as an integrated project with the SGC. The EUbOPEN organization based at Karolinska Institutet comprises funding for around 20 staff members, and is expected to grow as additional funding becomes available. Overall, EUbOPEN has activities e.g. in structural and chemical biology, antibody production and characterization as well as functional studies of human proteins in disease relevant assays.
