The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 250 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in the new biomedical research building Neo, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.
The position will be placed in the laboratory of Professor Eckardt Treuter which conducts pre-clinical research at the crossroads between epigenomics, metabolism, inflammation and disease. The laboratory is located at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, an excellent international research environment performing research in key areas of biomedical science.
This postdoc project aims to characterize the function of corepressors in atherosclerosis, with an emphasis on epigenetic alterations in macrophages and hepatocytes that potentially link type 2 diabetes and liver fibrosis/steatosis to the development of cardiovascular diseases.
Specific duties will include:
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as molecular medicine, molecular biology or physiology. Prior qualifications (e.g. a Felasa B certificate) and solid experience in designing and deeply characterizing transgenic mouse models, metabolism, inflammation, tissue crosstalk, liver and macrophage biology is required. Experience in transcriptional coregulator biology and analysis, genomic and epigenomic profiling, virus delivery systems, in vitro culture of cell lines and primary tissues, including bone marrow-derived macrophage isolation, is a plus.
