Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group
The research group in chronic inflammatory disease epidemiology is based at the Clinical Epidemiology Division at the Department of Medicine in Solna. We are approximately 25 people (doctoral students, postdocs, statisticians, senior researchers) with different backgrounds but with common research interests, namely the study of inflammatory diseases using Swedish national registers and clinical data. See our homepage for more information about who we are and what we do (http://ki.se/en/meds/kep-chronic-inflammatory-diseases). Our research is supported by several different funding sources, both public and private.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
We are looking for a motivated and curious student who wishes to pursue a PhD-degree in epidemiology while being part of a dynamic research environment at the intersection of academia, health care, and the private sector.

The doctoral student will work with studies comparing effectiveness and safety of different treatment strategies for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The studies are based on real-world data derived from a large Swedish observational study (CombatMS), Swedish Neuro Registry and national health and census registries. Throughout the project, the student will have the opportunity to learn, develop, and apply a range of epidemiological methods and study designs, with a specific focus on the large Swedish registers, and methodologies important to pharmacoepidemiological questions. The student will be supervised by experts in epidemiology, statistics, and neurology.
