Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medicine, Solna, Dermatology and venereology division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Dermatology and Venereology division is a part of Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Insitutet The research group is located at the Centre of Molecular Medicine (CMM; http://cmm.ki.se/). The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong collaboration with clinical departments and other national and international research groups. The group has several years of experience in skin research and non-coding RNA research with well-established methodologies for studying the expression and function of regulatory RNAs in skin diseases.

Duties
We are looking for a highly motivated person with strong competence in managing projects independently but also having good abilities for team work and cooperation. The applicant will be responsible for coordinating research activities of several groups within the Dermatology and Venereology division, including laboratory safety issues, as well as introduction of new group members. Moreover, the applicant will be responsible for planning and performing in vitro experiments with cell lines and primary cells, and in vivo experiments with animal models, and for supervising students.  

Entry requirements
The application is open for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in biomedical research, preferentially with documented previous experience with research coordination and supervision of team members. The applicant should have a PhD degree within the area of biomedical research and have strong interest in medical and biological problems.
Hands-on experience with disease models of inflammation and/or cancer, competence in molecular biology and immunology techniques, bioinformatics and/or animal handling is an advantage. Moreover, experience in preparing ethical applications and research grant applications is an advantage. Experience in supervising students and working with method development are meritorious.
The applicant should demonstrate ability to manage simultaneous projects and to communicate and interact well with others in the research group. Excellent written and oral communication in English is a prerequisite; knowledge of the Swedish language in written and oral form is an advantage.
