Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medicine, Solna, Division of Immunology and Allergy

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

A doctoral student is admitted to third-cycle/doctoral education. A doctoral education consists of supervised research, combined with courses and other educational activities. An individual study plan is established for each doctoral student. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

Research group
The Division for Immunology and Allergy at the Department of Medicine, Solna performs research on different aspect of allergy, immunology, and autoimmune diseases. The PhD student will work in a research team of Taras Kreslavskiy. The laboratory studies development and function of lymphocytes in mouse models.

In addition to the main supervisor, the PhD student will be co-supervised by Professor Karin Loré, Assistant Professor Carmen Gerlach, and Professor Meinrad Busslinger (IMP, Vienna).

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The overall objective of the PhD project is to study cellular and molecular events in the course of lymphocyte activation. The project aims to dissect cell fate decisions that take place upon B cell activation, molecular regulation of thereof as well as control of this process by T cells. Lymphomagenesis and autoimmunity that can result from dysregulation of this process will also be studied. All studies will be performed in mouse models.
