Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Chemistry I

A doctoral student is admitted to third-cycle/doctoral education. A doctoral education consists of supervised research, combined with courses and other educational activities. An individual study plan is established for each doctoral student. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

Research group
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics conducts a broad spectrum of biomedical research and education within medical biochemistry and biophysics. Presently department consists of 11 research divisions with a total of approximately 300 employees.
We invite applications for a doctoral student position in the group of Professor Roman Zubarev at the Division of Physiological Chemistry 1, https://ki.se/en/mbb/roman-zubarev-group. The group is focused on studying biological systems using proteomics and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other members of the research group to develop new top-down protein analysis techniques based on novel fragmentation reactions in the gas phase and study the structure and properties of proteins and their complexes, including antibodies. The project involves participation in building a new TopSpec apparatus for top-down mass spectrometry, performing experiments, data analysis and building physico-chemical theoretical models of the concerned processes
