The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
A laboratory manager position is available at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology in the group of professor Maria Masucci to study the mechanisms by which oncogenic herpesviruses interfere with cellular functions regulated by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like post-translational modifications and the role of virus-induced DNA damage and genomic instability in oncogenesis.

Duties
The research group is seeking a motivated and dedicated Laboratory Manager with good team spirit and good communication skills to help coordinate and enable new research activities.

As a Laboratory Manager, you will work close to the principal investigator and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory including but not limited to the following duties:

  • Develop and coordinate routine lab procedures
  • Monitor lab safety and address potential hazards, including risk analysis and chemical inventory
  • Oversee purchase, disposal, and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Upkeep lab supplies inventory and restock consumables and reagents etc.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of AV and IT equipment, and liaise with relevant parties externally and within KI
  • Supervise junior laboratory staff

The position further involves cell and molecular biology research.

Entry requirements
The successful applicant will have a PhD degree with documented lab manager experience or equivalent preferably from cell, cancer, and/or virology research.

Experience in working with one or more of the following techniques and tools are advantageous:

  • Primary cell cultures
  • PCR and qPCR
  • Recombinant DNA technologies
  • FACS analysis
  • Fluorescence imaging
  • Handling of human viruses and blood products  

Experience of working with modern versions of Windows and Mac clients and common software applications. Have basic knowledge of IT.

Experience in writing applications for ethical and animal work permits is a merit.

Excellent ability to communicate in English (spoken and written) is required.

Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities as responsibility, flexibility, teamwork and ability to solve problems.
