Karolinska Institutet, Department of Women's and Children's Health

The Department is organized in 10 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Neuropediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, Neonatology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuropsychiatry (KIND), Reproductive and Perinatal Health. The divisions have separate scientific profiles and vary in size and have several research groups, dealing with both basic and clinical science.

Division
Center of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Karolinska Institutet (KIND). KIND is a competence center for research, development, and education within the area of developmental psychopathology. The center is established in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Council aiming at improving generating high-end basic research, clinical practice, and spread new knowledge to stakeholders.

Research Group
The research group led by Assistant Professor Kristiina Tammimies focuses on understanding genetic and biological factors associated with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) such as autism spectrum disorder. We perform high-resolution genetic analyses in different NDD cohorts and following up the findings using bioinformatics approaches and cellular models. We are conducting translational research by combining data from neuropsychology, neuropathology, and environmental factors with the genetic data to understand the biological mechanisms leading to NDDs. The research group is located in BioClinicum, the new Karolinska University Hospital research building, and shares a lab floor with other research groups from the women/children/genetics theme.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our international team with a focus on understanding disrupted molecular pathways in NDDs. The successful candidate will have the possibility to do both laboratory and bioinformatic projects during the postdoctoral training period.

Entry requirements and duties
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Computational biology, Bioinformatics or related areas with at least two published peer-reviewed articles or manuscripts up-loaded in bioRxiv. Previous experience in working with neuronal cell culture and/or working with large omics datasets are preferred. We expect the successful candidate to have a strong motivation and drive for research, attention to details, able to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary research environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. The applicant will be evaluated based on education and previous scientific experience as well as personal suitability. The primary duties of the candidate will be to participate in the design of the projects, evaluations of new techniques/methods, cell culture work, perform data analyses, write manuscripts and participate in the overall activities of the research Group.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English:

1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defense, the title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current positions, academic distinctions and committee work.

2. A complete list of publications.

3.The contact information of two references, recommendation letters are also welcome.

4. A brief letter of motivation (no more than one page).

5. A summary of current work (no more than one page).

6. Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances.
