The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.
Division
The unit of Environmental Epidemiology is focused on epidemiological research concerning causes of asthma and allergy and health effects of ambient air pollution and community noise. Molecular biomarkers are increasingly used to assess interactions between environmental and heredity factors as well as to better characterize exposure and health effects. Most projects are conducted in international collaboration and aim to strengthen the basis for environmental health risk assessment. Such assessments are performed for both international and national organizations and authorities, and are often based on research conducted within the unit. We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher for a temporary position, maximum 2 years.
Duties
The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in a project that aims to investigate the role of diet and overweight for the development of allergic diseases. The project is based on an ongoing birth cohort (BAMSE) where 4089 participants has been followed from birth (www.ki.se/bamse). A follow-up at age 22-24 years is currently ongoing, and will be included in the current project.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to design studies and carry out statistical analyses, prepare manuscripts for publication and present the work at scientific meetings. The duties also include participation in data-collection and data management, in particular of data on diet and overweight. The postdoctoral researcher is also expected to undertake a limited amount of teaching, supervise students, and participate in health risk assessments.
